It is officially apple season in the Hudson Valley! Get ready for seeing a few apple recipes passing through while we make our way through the 25 lbs we picked. When they all look so good, how can you stop!

When we are thinking apple fritters, we want apples to be front and center (literally) of this fried masterpiece. There are so many times that you get an “Apple Fritter Donut” and what you end up getting is mostly donut with a few over cooked, highly spiced, pieces apple mixed in. What we are about to make here look like donuts, but are mostly apple.

To Make:

  • Core apples, cut into rings that are about half an inch thick. We left the skin on but if you are against apple skin, you can certainly take that off.
  • Put Bisquick and sugar into a bowl, pour in your cider and use a whisk to combine. The batter should be a little thinner than pancake batter.
  • Heat up your oil in a dutch oven to 350F degrees
  • Mix second portion of sugar and cinnamon together in a separate bowl (something big enough that you can toss the finished rings around in)
  • Dip apple rings into batter and then gently drop them in the oil. Let fry until they start to turn golden brown, turn over, and once they look golden brown and delicious take out of the oil and dry on some paper towels.
  • Once most of the oil has drained, put in bowl with cinnamon sugar, toss, and place on wire rack to cool.

Eat alone, eat with ice cream, eat with a cute little dollop of whipped cream and a mint leaf, just enjoy them.

Cheers!
